perfect oxsat for use in airplane August 21, 2010 2 normal people My wife looked at my original oxsat choice and tossed it out. She is a operating room nurse at one of the biggest hospitals (USA) so I let her pick this one for me. For grins, she even tested it at her hospital - comparing it to their calibrated equiptment. The only suggestion she made is to not move finger at all during the sample period... works great in the airplane - I dial in just the right amount of ox to keep me awake (joke)... suggest you know your baseline on the ground and set ox to to maintain as close as you can.
Good for elderly mother August 17, 2010 Susan McLaughlin (DAYTON, OHIO, US) My mother's blood oxygen level was not staying stable during a recent hospital stay, so I needed something inexpensive and easy to use at home. The Nonin GO2 Achieve FingerTip Pulse Oximeter is just the ticket! I had the dr. compare its readings to her medical equipment readings and found the oximeter to be calibrated perfectly. It's very easy to use and read, so we regularly use it.
I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to monitor blood oxygen of an elderly family member.
Accurate and Convenient July 1, 2010 hiker girl (Arizona) I've been using this meter for several weeks. I compared it to my pulmonary doctor's meter, and it was accurate. The meter is convenient to use at home and I've taken it with me walking and also to the golf course.
Back light no good June 7, 2010 R. Allers (San Jose CA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
The Nonin Achieve does the measurements well but if you want to use it in dark environments it has a serious problem. The back light only works sometimes.
Amazon replace mine, but the 2nd unit behaves the same. The device has an ambient light sensor. If it senses low light the back light should turn on. I think the problem is that the sensor is very sensitive to infrared. If the ambient temperature is over about 75 degrees, the light never turns on.
At about 80 deg I tried the unit in a dark area -- no light. I put the Nonin in the refrigerator for a few minutes. After chilling, the back light works for a few minutes until it warms to room temp again.
So it seems they have a design flaw. Don't buy it if you need to use it in the dark.
Love it June 3, 2010 ba (palm desert, ca) Use it at work, it's great, I prefer this over my coworkers half price ones made in China.
