4 out of 5 stars Can you jumprope on it?   July 31, 2010
Sleth
I'm just going to answer the two questions that had me on the fence when deciding whether or not to buy this mat in the hopes that in turn that will help you decide.

1. Can you jump rope on it?
The only area for cardio I have available to me happens to be covered in concrete. So I was looking for something I could jump rope on that wouldn't end in me breaking my joints. So, can you jump rope on the mat without destroying your body or the mat itself? Yes. It felt soft when I was jumping on it with sneakers and didn't move too much during my routine. My shoes also didn't leave any imprints or tears like I was expecting though it does make a little sound when the rope hits the mat which I guess is to be expected.

2. Does it really smell?
I also do abs and some other body workouts on the mat and have yet to smell the odor earlier reviewers were talking about. I didn't even air the mat out or anything, maybe I got lucky or they fixed the smell.

Notes: When you uncurl the mat on the floor you do need to put a weight or something at the end to make the mat completely straight or the end will curl up a little. But this happens to all roll up mats and overall I am satisfied with my purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Good Mat   July 26, 2010
Turtle James
I purchased this mat to use with the P90X system. I have hardwood floors, and I needed something that could protect the surface from weights, while giving me extra padding and grip. It accomplished these needs with some minor drawbacks.

PROS:

1) Nice thick padding (pretty much foam) absorbs a lot of stress on the joints.
2) Protects floor from weights.*
3) Good grip if surface is dry
4) Velcro straps convenient if you move around a lot.
5) Cheap

CONS:

1) Slight smell. It's not as bad as some reviewers state and I have a very sensitive nose.
2) I found it a bit narrow for some floor exercise like push ups.
3) Heavy objects will cause the mat to dent in place if left on the mat for an extended period.
4) Dirt magnet. It is hard to wipe off or vacuum. Found it best to use a vacuum brush attachment.

Overall, I like this mat. I'd recommend it for most people. If you are looking for something that won't be moved around much, or to place weights on, I'd get a mat with a harder surface. If you are wider or intend to do a lot of floor exercise, this may be too narrow for you (24 inches).

5 out of 5 stars Loooove this!!   July 18, 2010

Both my fiancé and I have this case and we love it! It's so squishy! It kind of smells funny when we first got them in, but we just laid them out and it eventually went away.

3 out of 5 stars So-So Mat, Good for Lower Impact Routines   July 13, 2010
William Alexander (Spartanburg, SC)
I just started working out again, and I purchased this mat to help. Here are the pros and cons as I see them.

PROS

1) Very thick and not uncomfortable.

2) Long when rolled out, plenty of area.

3) Rolls up tightly and quickly for a thicker mat, easy to store.

CONS

1) Very foul chemical odor you will have to get used to. If you are prone to getting headache from strong chemical odors, this is not a good buy for you.

2) It tends to bunch and slip when you use it for calisthenics. I stopped using it all together for calisthenics and just went for an old blanket. Stopping every ten seconds to adjust the mat is frustrating.

3) It takes a long time for the "curl" to smooth out of the mat, and that's annoying.

So, I would say that this mat is great for things like yoga and Pilates, exercises that are not as jarring and fast. For higher motion and more "jarring" workouts, it will take some time for the mat to adjust and become more useful. So while I am not at all dis-satisfied with my purchase, it is pretty clear to me what the pros and cons of this item are.

Recommended, with notes.

3 out of 5 stars Decent mat but too slippery   June 30, 2010
Nghiem Vo (Houston, TX USA)
This mat is a pretty decent mat and serves it's purpose as a cushion to relief impact on your knees and joints. It's great for stretching and floor exercises. However, I noticed that on my high intensity days, my sweat makes the mat really slippery. It has gotten to a point that I stopped using the mat altogether. Additionally, it tend to move around quite a bit when you move around on it, so be careful when using it on carpet or hardwood floor.

Pros: Thick soft cushion, great at absorbing impacts.

Cons: Too soft for yoga stretches, very slippery when you sweat on it (does not absorb sweat), does not stay in place (hardwood or carpet)
